I am a candidate for Houston Independent Board of Trustees, District 9. I am a parent, teacher, and resident of District 9. I AM THE ONLY EDUCATOR IN THIS RACE. I am asking for your support as we move our campaign forward.

I am a product of the Houston Independent School District. I attended B. H. Grimes Elementary, Albert Thomas Middle School, and S. F. Austin High School’s Magnet program for Teaching Professions. I obtained my Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and Masters of Science in Secondary Education from Texas Southern University.

My career in education began in 1989, as an Instructional Aide at J. R. Reynolds Elementary School in the Houston Independent School District. I became a classroom teacher in 1996, teaching reading and English Language Arts at W.S. Holland Middle School. While at Holland Middle School, I served as a classroom teacher, mentor, and English Department Chairperson.

My promotion to Literacy Coach at Phillis Wheatley High School, allowed me to ensure that teachers had the materials their students needed to be successful. Subsequently, I joined the Mighty Falcons at Jesse H. Jones High School as a classroom teacher, Instructional Coordinator, and Testing Coordinator. While serving as Testing Coordinator, I collaborated with the Leadership Team to put systems in place that improved the state rating from Unacceptable to Acceptable and moved Jesse H. Jones out of Adequate Yearly Progress status.

I joined the Madison Marlins as an Interventionist where my primary focus was providing data support and collaborating with the Math Department, in particular to improve student success.

Currently, I teach second grade at James H. Law Elementary School.
